Oslo is the capital of Norway. If you are travelling to Norway and would like to experience a more urban version of Norway then Oslo is definitely the place to visit.
Not only is Oslo the capital city, but it is also the largest city in Norway. If you get tired of the city life then you don’t have to travel far to enjoy nature, Oslo is surrounded by forest and nature.
Sightseeing
Stortinget – The supreme legislature of Norway. This building is quite nice to look at.
The castle “Slottet” – This is really a must if you are a turist in Oslo. Also take a look at the garden surrounding it.
The opera house – A very different type of architecture. A great place for photos.
Ankerbrua – This is a bridge located in the district of Grunerløkka. On each corner of the bridge there is a statue. Each figure represent a Norwegian folk hero from Norwegian folktales.
Vigeland sculpture park – This is most likely one of the most visited attractions in Oslo. The park show the work of Gustav Vigeland, which is more than 200 sculptures in bronze, granite and cast iron.
Akershus fortress – This historical castle and fortress was built in the 1300s. During summer guided tours are available.
Akerbrygge “wharf” – Here you will find plenty of restaurants and shops.
Food
Jaipur – There are many Indian restaurants in Oslo, this is one of the really good ones. Read more about it on Sunday.
New Delhi – Another great Indian restaurant, next to Jaipur.
Cocoa – This is a cafe/ cocoa bar specializing in cocoa.
Mucho Mas – A Mexican restaurant with a hipster feel to it.
Wallmans – This is more a show, but it also serves a four course dinner while your watching the show. This show has become very popular in Oslo.
Shopping
Karl Johan “shopping street” – Probably the most famous shopping street in Oslo. This street also leads to the castle and the national theatre.
Bogstadveien – This is a shopping street that mostly sell brands.
Oslo city – Located in the city centre, close to Karl Johan.
