Heart shaped waffles with strawberry jam and sour cream is probably as Norwegian as it gets. We Norwegians just love waffles. You’ll find waffle stands in markets, religious events, museums, in the shopping streets in the cities, at the entrance of supermarkets etc. Waffle sales is also the traditional way to collect money for organizations. So it is only natural that we celebrate waffle day, and that day is today!
This recipe for waffles are from the Norwegian church abroad in Paris. Norway has the Norwegian church abroad located all around the world. These churches were meant for Norwegian sailors travelling the world. Today many Norwegians visit them when they feel the need to meet other Norwegians or eat something very Norwegian like waffles when they are travelling or living abroad. The Norwegian church abroad has also done a lot of good in the areas they are located, like helping victims of the tsunami in South Asia.
Every year the Norwegian church abroad awards the best waffle recipe. The waffle recipe from Paris didn’t win last year, but the recipe is quite known for being amazing in which I definitely agree.
