Eirin Lisø has previously owned and run an interior design store. She considers herself above averagely interested in interior design, helping both friends and family with their homes.
Eirin has a love for colors and candlelight’s, which are some of the elements that make her home cozy.
– I actually love colors and now that colors are a trend again I had to bring in some colors. I painted the hall in a dark blue color and my bathroom has an army-green color, Eirin says.
Her home has a modern feel to it, with Nordic elements like wooden coffee tables, painted wooden floors, cozy pillows and blankets, and warm lighting combined with white and black walls. It is obvious when you walk into Eirins home that she knows a great deal about interior design.
Nordic design fills the home with “hygge”
– Wood gives a warm feeling to the room. It doesn’t have to be in the same color even, every wood-color gives warmth. Wooden elements definitely give a feeling of coziness to the home, Eirin says.
Eirin believes that the secret to “hygge” is the fact that Norwegians burn a lot of candles and prefer a warm home. Another tip to a warmer home is to fill the home with lamps with weak lightbulbs that beams a weak and warm light. Eirin recommends spending a little extra on good light bulbs to make sure you get a warm light.
To Eirin Nordic design is also filled with firm lines, and she believes that black is a color that goes well with Nordic design. Her living room has a few black walls which really go well with the green plants and the white and wooden furniture.
Changes decorations with the seasons
Eirin changes a few of her decorative objects with the seasons. This fall she has changed her pillows to darker colors like black and army green. She believes that dark colors like black, different shades of grey, army green and ocher yellow are perfect for fall.
– Green plants soften the room. I always like to have a bowl of fruit and a dish with vegetables and nuts on display. This makes it feel more like someone’s actually living here, she says.
Use what you have
Eirin spent nine months getting her living room ready.
– I don’t buy everything at the same time. I buy things from different stores, and some of my decorative objects I have had for years. Everything does not have to be new, she says.
Her tip is to put all your decorative objects on one table and start mixing them and putting them together in order to find what fits together.
Another tip from Eirin is to find cheaper versions of expensive decor.
– It’s not always easy to see the difference between the cheap and expensive things. And it is not always necessary to spend a lot to make a difference in your home. Sometimes new pillows and plants are enough, Eirin says.
Eirin believes that one should choose a style and stick to it, and be careful with mixing too many styles. Her style is what she calls a mix between Nordic and minimalism.
Chicken soup
Eirin loves to cook and bake, and says she is especially inspired by the Indian kitchen. She believes that presentation is very important.
– It is very important to me that the food looks nice. I believe that we eat with our eyes as well, she says.
Eirin sometimes finds herself in the kitchen a whole day just cooking and enjoying herself. The chicken soup that she has chosen to share with Dear November is something she came up with as she was making it.
